The Zawadi Africa undergraduate scholarship for women is a program designed to provide scholarships to females with brilliant minds from less privileged areas from Africa to further their education in the US, Uganda, Ghana, South Africa, and Kenya.
Zawadi Africa program scholarship for woman is a leadership development program that provides university scholarships and leadership development and life skills training to intelligent but financially challenged African females, with the goal to develop more African female leaders.
Zawadi Africa was formed with the belief that a world-class education coupled with the right character development will ensure that these young African women will be able to return to their father’s land with sufficient knowledge and skills to make positive, massive and significant impact in a male dominated community in Africa where women are not entitled to freedom.
Degree Level
To apply for the zawadi Africa undergraduate scholarship for women program, the candidate must have completed her secondary school certification examination i.e. the Kenya Certificate is Secondary Examination (KSCE).

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, the following criteria must be met:
- Be a female student
- She must have demonstrated academic excellence (an A student)
- She must have demonstrated leadership qualities such as prefect role, community volunteer, church worker, leadership in peer-related activities and so on.
- She must have overcome various challenges such as financial difficulty, socio-cultural practices such as early marriages and Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and so on in order to attain academic perfection.
- She must come from a financially disadvantaged background.
- She must have demonstrated clear financial need.
- She should have completed high school no more than two years before applying to Zawadi Africa.
Scholarship Benefits
Zawadi Africa program scholarships for women takes the students enrolled in the program through a rigorous nine-month period where the student will be coached and prepared to apply to partner schools offering scholarships.
Application procedure
If you meet the above criteria, ensure that you complete every part of the application form. Your application will only be considered if it is COMPLETELY filled.
- Attach a one-page biography and a passport photograph. The biography should be TYPED and highlight your family and educational background, your aspirations, financial status, as well as hobbies and activities that you have undertaken while in school and in your community.
- Attach a 500-650 word essay on ONLY ONE of three topics listed on page seven of the application form.
- Attach a copy of your high school leaving certificate and secondary school result slip as well as copies of high school certificates that show your involvement in extracurricular activities and leadership-related programs.
- Attach a signed recommendation letter from your class teacher or the principal/headteacher.
- Attach a copy of your birth certificate and your National Identity Card (if you have one).
- Attach a letter from the local chief of your community confirming his knowledge of your family and yourself. The letter should preferably be written on a government letter headed document.
- Any false statements, omissions, or forged documents will lead to automatic disqualification from the scholarship.
- Submit a Hard Copy of this application form and the required supporting documents on or before the deadline to the designated offices written in the application forms.
Applications are opened every February and closed in April of each year.
